Design of Custom Made Lamps

True passion is a source of a torrent of creativity. You definitely desire individuality in the lighting of your home/office/restaurant/theater. Creating a custom lamps shade, right from the ordering to the delivery, make sure that the vendor you choose meets the standards when it comes to service, quality and design. We emphasize that you’re not just buying a lamp; you are getting a decorative lighting fixture that is a piece of functional art.

The first step is communicating to the designer what exactly you need to light up the room, while at the same time making sure that the colors and size complement the space. The printing process on these lamp shades, for floor lamps, table lamps, and ceiling lighting needs to be just right. Next, the image is printed and shown to you for approval. Unfortunately, the art of making individualized, custom-made lamps is a dying art. Many companies now sell quickly-made mass-produced lamps from abroad. Once the image is approved, the lamp is made. It is then brought to the wiring specialist, where it is wired and tested for defects, before the shipping department boxes and ships it.

Custom Made Lamps – Beauty and Harmony with Freedom of Choice

Custom lamps from Arie Designs give you all three attributes – beauty, harmony with the freedom of choice – you can choose the material, shade, color of light, size and dimensions which you desire. Making a custom lamp involves giving the design, approving the image and waiting for the lamp to be delivered to you. It looks fast and easy, but much time and care go into each one of the light fixture creations; it is much more difficult than meets the eye. From the designing process to the custom craftsman assembly to the shipping of each custom lamp, it is an expensive and time-consuming process.

In our vast practice of 25 years, we have created a niche business in the custom lighting fixture industry, that works with retail clients directly, retail lighting chain stores, restaurants, small and large companies, department stores and the hospitality industry – providing custom made lamps for hallways, rooms and lobbies. Our experience and ability to make lamp shades is pre-eminent. You can see our lighting fixtures and custom lamp shades in churches, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, nightclubs, synagogues, corporate offices and private homes throughout the country.

Choosing Right Size For Custom Made Chandelier

Design your custom chandeliers to float in your room as a part of the decor. Make sure that they are not too large or they will overpower the space; conversely, if they are too small, they will look out of place. To ensure your chandelier is the right size for the room in which it will hang, consider the following questions:

  • How high is your ceiling and how big is the room? Taller ceilings and bigger rooms need larger chandeliers.
  • What is the size and shape of your table or island? The chandelier should complement, not outsize, anything you plan to suspend it over.
  • What is the form and design of the chandelier? Light, airy chandeliers tend to look larger.

The following tips may help in designing a custom chandelier:

  • When determining whether to hang a chandelier, ensure that its bottom is at least 7′ from the floor.
  • For two-story foyers, if there is a window above the front door, center the chandelier so it can be seen from outside.
  • If your foyer is extra-large, you may also want to add sconces. Sconces should be installed 5’ high from the floor and 6′-8′ apart.

Custom Made Chandeliers – Getting It Right is Blend of Art and Science

A custom chandelier is one of the most magnificent light fixtures, which can add to the beauty and splendor of any room. However, it is imperative to get the size just right. Neither should the chandelier be too large, that it subsumes everything in the room, nor should it be so small that it does not belong. Placing a chandelier that is too small in a space is likely the biggest mistake because it’s very noticeable. It is better to make the mistake on it being too big than too small and design the chandelier slightly larger than necessary.

However, the best option is to size it just right. To determine the proper size chandelier for a room, add the dimensions together: For example if the room is 10’ by 15’, add 10 plus 15 to get 25. The proper size chandelier would then be 25” in diameter. This works for any room. Ensure that the bottom of the custom chandelier is at least 7’ from the floor. If windows are present in the room, center the fixture so it can be seen from outside. A chandelier, custom made to the right size, will not fail to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Designing of Custom Lighting Fixtures

Custom lighting fixtures are the perfect way to update your office, hotel, restaurant, salon, or home. Whether you are looking for a lighting fixture for your dining room or a contemporary design for your desk, we allow you to create your own contemporary look by choosing the material, design, size and finish you require in the lighting fixture, made especially for you. The design process of these lighting fixtures is iterative, since it involves continuous feedback from the client and changes in the design to adhere to the client’s requirements and suggestions.

Accordingly, the design process is briefly summarized in the next few lines. It begins with a concept provided by the client, the concept can be provided in a form of a drawing, sketch, or an image. In addition to this, dimensions, material and lamping are also required along with other details which can be seen in our Custom Lighting Specification Guide. A quote is provided based on the given information and after quote approval, shop drawings are produced which include all the details of the custom light. These details provide the client all the information needed for final approval of design and an opportunity to comment and ask for changes to design. Once the final design is approved by all concerned parties, production starts and when the fabrication process is done client will receive an original lighting fixture, made especially for the space.

Things to Keep in Mind When Designing a Custom Made Chandelier

A custom made chandelier looks very elegant and graceful and adds splendor to the space where it is placed. Here are a few tips to consider when designing custom made chandeliers:

  • Color – Pick a color scheme which matches the decor of the surrounding space and does not clash with it.
  • Shape – Apart from the traditional shape, you can experiment with various shapes, such as rectangular, oval or square. Anything goes, so long as it is functional and matches the furnishing.
  • Size – As a thumb-rule, the size (width/diameter) of the chandelier in inches should be equal to the sum of the width and length of the room in feet.
  • Light-shade – The bulbs should be of a color which is in consonance with the functionality and the mood of the room.
  • Height – The chandelier should be hanging at least 7’ above the floor. In case, it is positioned above a table or platform, ensure that it is 2-3’ above the surface, so as to allow sufficient clearance and prevent the chandelier from coming in the way.
  • Accessories – The chandelier can be accessorized depending on its function. For example, if it is to be used for a child’s room, it can be accentuated with doll accessories, cartoon character figurines, and small toys that match the theme of the child’s room or their favorite cartoon or doll characters.

Latest Trends in Custom Made Chandeliers

An attractive chandelier should always blend with the predominant decor and color scheme of the room. If the room is traditional, opt for chandeliers with more ornamentation and decorative details. If the room is modern, opt for lesser ornamentation and simpler details. Colorful chandeliers can create drama. Smaller ones provide elegance to small rooms. Even walk-in closets can be lit with a small custom made chandelier. So much so that beyond laundry rooms and garages, any room is an open target for hanging a chandelier. Of late, kitchens and bathrooms have become popular locations for chandeliers. People treat their bedrooms as luxurious personal spaces with elaborate bathroom areas, so it is not unreasonable to consider chandeliers there.

Chandeliers have also sized up to accommodate the soaring foyers and sweeping two-story spaces of larger homes. However, care should be taken that for two-story foyers, if there is a window above the front door, the chandelier should be centered so that it can be seen from outside. A trend toward smaller chandeliers and mini-chandeliers make it possible to incorporate these items into smaller rooms or areas in the home. At some places, mini-chandeliers are being grouped together, at others, they are being treated as sconces.
